Ray Ralph

Boy's Varsity Coach

Coach Ralph “R2” Coach Ralph grew up in Long Island, NY where he began playing lacrosse with his older and younger brothers (6) and friends as a 6 year old. Because there was no organized team at the grade school level, he didn’t play organized lacrosse until he was in 9th grade. Although his high school team was a start up team, with only 2 “experienced” players, it went on to win the division title. His high school team had a 21-1 record and went to the county championship game in 1971. Coach Ralph went on to play at Nassau Community College, where they were National Champions in 1972 with 33-0 record. After college, Ray played club lacrosse for Long Island Athletic Club, national champions, and there was selected to club all stars. He moved to California upon joining the Marine Corps where he tested USMC F-4 Phantom jet engines and played and coached for Orange County Lacrosse Club, who were CA State Lacrosse Champs for 8 years during the 80’s, and went on to beat the Canadian National Team. Also in 1980 he played in the “Nations World Games” in British Columbia Canada for the United States National Indoor (Box) Lacrosse Team. Ray coached lacrosse at UCI 1990-1994, where his team and Jon Fox (player & captain) won the WCll Championships in 1994. Ray came to Tustin when Jon Fox and Coach Brooks, who he coached at UCI, and played with respectively, contacted him. During the past five years, Ray coached at Foothill High School and assisted at Hewes Middle School, and while under his guidance and training, Foothill took home two State Championships and the 2007 CIF championship. He has also coached JV football at Foothill. He loves to coach because he loves the enthusiasm, spirit, and intellect of young athletes.

Ray has been married for 30 years and has two children, Ryan 26 (who left in January for Officer Candidate School, Marine Corps) and Kelly 25 and two beautiful grandkids. He works from 5 am to 1:45 pm for Parker Hannifin Corp, in Irvine as a Dynamics Specialist. His coaching philosophy is to listen to the kids, if they are positive, happy and laughing most of the time, you are succeeding regardless of the score or record. He was one of the Boy's Varsity Coaches last year when our Foothill Knight Boy's took the CIF-SS Lacrosse Championship Title.

We would like to welcome Coach Ralph back to Foothill and look forward to an awesome season with his lacrosse guidance and experience on our side.
