Ahern and Cumming Selected as Captains
Updated: Aug 18, 2019
Senior Riley Ahern and junior Andrew Cumming were selected by their teammates to be captains of the 2019 Foothill Knights boys’ lacrosse team.
“Between these two players we have a great balance of knowledge of the game, passion for the program, and empathy for their teammates. They have earned the respect and vote from their teammates from leading by example and embracing the grind. I'm confident that they will help lead this team in the right direction we are aiming not just this year, but help continue to build and place their mark the knights culture for years to come. They both do a really great job of involving all the teams leaders in the decisions and have a good pulse on the core of the guys” said Coach Jon Fox.

Ahern, a three-year varsity midfielder, has been playing lacrosse for seven years and is a dependable component in Foothill’s offense. Riley consistently finds open teammates, or the back of the goal, with a keen sense of the game and knowledge of his opponents. Riley has been described as an incredibly hard worker, who can play both sides of the ball. Last year Riley lead the middie-line in productivity and has played for West Coast Starz and So Cal Express in the off season. Riley is a proven leader both on and off the field in his involvement in National League of Young Men, and looking forward to this upcoming season.
Cumming, one of only two freshman varsity players his first year, has proven to be a leader from the beginning. Andrew started playing with Tustin Tigers in 4th grade and was meant for lacrosse. In 2018 He was Foothill’s leading goal scorer and finished with 105 points (64 goals, 41 assists), Foothill attackman of the Year, and First Team All County last year. Andrew was also selected as an Under Armour Underclassman All-American in 2017 and plays for West Coast Starz and So Cal Express in the off season.
Both Ahern and Cumming claim that the most memorable game of their lacrosse career to date is winning the OC Championship in 2017, and they look forward to the chance to bring the ’ship back to Foothill this year. The entire Knights program is looking forward to watching these two help the coaching staff carry out the goals set in the preseason. Go Knights!
